Create your own knitting octopus

The art of amigurumi (crochet toys) conquered the hearts of lovers of toys and crafts. This technique gained popularity in Japan in the early years of the millennium and eventually traveled the world. In Russia, writer and artist Elena Plaxina (from Simpatico Gufo) helps this sweet craft survive with her knitted animal toys. The artist makes all kinds of crochet creatures, but amigurumi octopuses are especially special.

This 10 cm long toy octopus has eyes made of glass beads and eight tentacles that can be arranged in many ways thanks to the wires inside. It even has glass beads in its “skin” to give it a sparkling look underwater.

Plaxina sells her handmade octopuses on Etsy, but if you’re looking to get started and create your own octopus, the artist recently posted a downloadable crochet pattern of her design. Choose your favorite colored yarn, download the PDF and follow Plaxina’s instructions. The result will be better if you already know how to crochet; If you’re new to learning, you can learn the basics in the My Modern Met guide.
